A coach for the coach
Hi, I’m Garren.
As a lifelong athlete and coach, I’ve always been driven by helping others grow and reach their potential. From my early days teaching rock climbing as a high school student to my role as a strength and conditioning expert, I have continuously sought ways to empower individuals in their pursuits.
Now, as a consultant in the field of sport psychology, my mission is to provide the knowledge, tools, and supportive environment that allows coaches to reflect, learn, develop, and ultimately succeed.
My Background
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology.
I’m a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
I have had the privilege of working with high school, collegiate, and Olympic coaches and athletes as well as with the U.S. Army as a mental performance expert and master resilience trainer.
I currently work with athletes of all levels 1-on-1 as a mental performance coach. I work with them to build skills that improve the mental and emotional aspects of how the train, prepare, and compete.
I am also an adjunct professor at National University teaching and supervising graduate students in the NU Applied Sport and Performance Psychology program.
My Coaching Philosophy
My approach to coaching is a person-centered style that combines mindfulness concepts and behavioral psychology concepts to address thinking and emotional patterns that impact a coach’s own performance.
I also work with coaches to help them adopt a transformational approach and guide them in proven ways to build a healthy, high-performing culture.
I help coaches integrate sport psychology concepts into their coaching to improve both their own and their athletes’ mental resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
